Speaker

For the BIGS Immunosciences and Infection, a new speaker was confirmed:

Prof. Katrin Paeschke (Group leader DNA, RNA structures and genome stability)

Currently in her lab, she uses S. cerevisiae and human cell lines to understand the biological function of G-quadruplex structures and how this is connected to genome stability.

“As a speaker of the Graduate school I would like to support young scientist on their way to independence. With this program we aim to create a platform for PhD students to perform a high quality PhD work by creating an interactive and stimulating scientific environment.“

Mentoring Program

Throughout the graduate program, BIGS participants are guided by their supervisor and the members of their thesis advisory board. This will ensure regular project-related discussions. The progress of each research project will also be followed in oral and written annual reports. Moreover, they can choose an additional mentor for scientific and also other questions regarding supervision or career planning.

Katrin Paeschke (spokeperson of the graduate school), Alexandra Krämer (currently on maternity leave) and Klaus Wunderling (coordinator of the graduate school) are also happy to assist in the search for a mentor.

We are also always available to our members for a meeting (of course treated confidentially if requested) - be it to clarify scientific, interpersonal or supervision issues.

Monitoring

To ensure a high standard of supervision, the students’ individual progress is monitored by a central quality system, including an annual meeting with the thesis committee and regular progress reports. In order to continuously improve the offers of the BIGS Immunosciences and Infection, we conduct regular surveys.
